As a matter of fact it's almost impossible to buy legal DVDs in China. You just can't find them. In return, there is stores with pirated DVDs on every second corner. Until now, a lot of normal DVDs carried the Blue-ray label which indicated nothing else than 'good quality'. But it seems like the pirates don't sleep and upgraded their equipment! Out-now: Real Blue-ray!
I was looking around Baidu.com (the Chinese Google) and stumbled upon their version of maps feature. While the normal view works pretty much like Google Maps, if you click on “三维” (Chinese for 3D) you'll be amazed what they put together. They remodeled Beijing as a SimCity-style 3D view, that is just impressively detailed aswel as beautiful. More or less everything inside the 4th ring road is covered. In some parts you can tell that it's up there for quite some time. The Sanlitun area is still under construction for example.
For me, Google hit the jackpot today by releasing their native Google Translate iPhone app. It boasts voice recognition and reads out your translations. If you flip your phone to landscape, it'll switch to a flashcard. It works like a charm! It's free! It's the thing I always wished for in China! Thank you Google!
Apple today launched a Facetime desktop app.. It's still in beta but works like a charm and is publicly available here. Bam!
